The president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) used social media this Friday (26) to communicate solidarity with the families of the victims of the fire that hit an inn in Porto Alegre (RS). In total, ten people died and eleven were injured.

“With sadness and concern I learned of the death of at least 10 people in a fire at a guesthouse in Porto Alegre. The establishment welcomed people in vulnerable situations in the capital of Rio Grande do Sul. My solidarity with the families and friends who lost their loved ones”, wrote the president.

The fire started early in the morning and was brought under control around 5 am, according to authorities. The place received people in socially vulnerable situations, according to Porto Alegre City Hall.

The Gaucho governor Eduardo Leite (PSDB) also spoke out and stated that the government is mobilizing to find out the cause of the fire.

The inn is located on Avenida Farrapos, between Garibaldi and Barros Cassal streets, towards the Center-neighborhood.

Initially, Civil Defense works with the hypothesis of arson. The Civil Police say they found no signs of crime at the scene. Firefighters disclosed that the space operated irregularly and did not have a permit or fire protection plan.
