BRASILIA- THE federal government signed this Thursday, 25th, an agreement with entities representing public servants federal authorities to adjust food aid by 52% from May 2024, with payment on June 1st. With the measure, the benefit will increase from R$658 to R$1,000.

The negotiations were led by the Ministry of Management and Innovation (MGI). According to the press release, last year, employees had a linear salary increase of 9% and a 43.6% increase in food allowance (which was R$458 and went to R$658).

In the agreement, it was also decided that there will be an increase in health aid, called supplementary health assistance per capita average. The value of the benefit, currently R$144.38, will increase to around R$215. There will also be an increase in daycare allowance, which is R$321 and will go to R$484.90.

According to the MGI, the increase in food assistance alone brings an income gain of over 4.5% for more than 200,000 active employees – those who earn up to R$9,000 per month. For employees with the lowest salaries and who simultaneously receive the three benefits (food, health and daycare), the increase in total remuneration will reach 23%.

MGI Labor Relations Secretary, José Lopez Feijóo, said that the approved government proposal works against existing disparities in remuneration in the federal public service. “Despite the existing budget restrictions, Minister Esther Dweck made a huge effort to find the financial space to prepare this proposal,” he explained.

The secretary also reinforced his commitment to ongoing dialogue and valuing employees. “This government, unlike the previous government, has democratically reopened spaces for dialogue with the federal public service, spaces that did not exist for the past seven years,” he stated.
