Lula demands from Haddad and Alckmin more agility and dialogue with Congress

If Rui Costa (Civil House), Alexandre Padilha (Institutional Relations) and Fernando Haddad (Treasury) were already dedicating a good part of their time to negotiations in the president’s interest, this week they moved even more between dinners and cabinet meetings with Senate presidents and Chamber, and leaders and deputy leaders.

The concentrated effort of Lula’s team, which had been complaining that some ministers spend more time on other tasks than the government, had an effect.

Congress postpones vote on President Lula’s vetoes

The final decision, however, was made by the president of the Senate and Congress, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), on the grounds that the Chamber closed the agreements with the government, but in the Senate there were still doubts.

The main battle at the moment between deputies and the government is the schedule for releasing parliamentary amendments. Arthur Lira defended voting on vetoes on Wednesday to overturn mainly those related to amendments.

The president of the Chamber wants to force the government to release the amounts by the end of this semester, aiming for the municipal elections. The government is against it and managed to postpone the Congress session, gaining time to negotiate with the allied base.

Haddad delivers the first part of the tax reform regulations to Congress

He also said that, according to Lira, the vote in the Chamber should be completed in the first half of the year. But the project has barely arrived, and there is already a dispute over the rapporteur of the proposals.

The government defends a rapporteur. In the Chamber there is a defense of two rapporteurs. One of the project delivered on Wednesday. Another part of the project that will regulate the management committee and the distribution of revenue.

The government wants to keep deputy Aguinaldo Ribeiro (PP-PB), who has already reported the reform in the PEC vote. Arthur Lira wants to include more allies in the quest to command the process of his succession.
