With a name inspired by Silicon Valley, a region that brings together technology giants in California, in the United States, the Port Maravalley is a new technology hub installed by Rio City Hall in the Port Zone. The region, which is going through the process of attracting new residents and initiatives, gained this Tuesday (2) a 10,000 square space to house startups, young companies in the high technology sector.

The one who occupies part of the warehouse is the new unit of Institute of Pure and Applied Mathematics (Impa)which received an investment of R$45 million of the municipality in works and purchase of equipment. The president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Mayor Eduardo Paes were present at the inauguration of the Faculty of Mathematics – Impa Tech, which already has its first class of one hundred students. These are students who come from 22 states and the Federal District, selected from public school students, and will have the opportunity to graduate free of charge. Classes start this Wednesday (3).

“Our role is to help you climb more steps. And the country wins, which will have highly qualified labor to compete with any country in the world. The bicycle goal is the most beautiful in football. Today, we are scoring a bicycle goal in Rio de Janeiro, creating the Faculty of Mathematics”, said President Lula during the event this Tuesday (2). Authorities who participated in the inauguration were able to see the space where thirteen classrooms and eight laboratories were installed, as well as a library, auditorium, study rooms and common space.

Partner in the project, the federal government will allocate R$55.9 million over four years to undergraduate college. The funds will be used to pay teachers, in addition to a monthly stipend of R$500.00, food assistance of R$1,300 and accommodation of R$3,000.00 for students. Students will live in a hotel in front of the college on a temporary basis, until accommodations are available. apartments destined for them in a nearby condominium, purchased by Companhia Carioca de Parcerias e Investimentos (CCPar) from the city hall.

Maravalley will be managed through concession over the next 20 years by River Energy Bay, responsible for intermediation between companies that are already on the market and startups that may establish themselves in the offices set up there. At this time, the focus will be on attracting companies in the areas of sustainability, energy and health, which will also be able to count on tax incentives from the city hall, such as an ISS of just 2% (in the rest of the city, the ISS is 5%). An investment to boost the technology sector in the city and make Rio the “innovation capital of Latin America”.
