He became known as the drummer for Sepultura, the most important metal band in the country, which he joined in 2011, at the age of 20. The announcement of the musician’s departure shortly before the band’s farewell tour took fans and even the group by surprise in February. Sepultura began performing with Celebrating Life Through Death in March, when the drummer was replaced by American Greyson Nekrutman.

At the time, according to the group, Eloy said he would pursue a career in another project. “We were taken by surprise, without warning or any kind of debate about how to make the transition. Communication was made and he immediately left the band, abandoning everything related to Sepultura,” said a statement.

In November, Slipknot announced the departure of Jay Weinberg, then the band’s drummer. Shortly afterwards, the musician also said he was taken by surprise by the decision. “I was upset to receive the call I received on the morning of November 5th; the news that many of you would learn about shortly after,” he wrote in a statement on Instagram.

Eloy was a child prodigy, he started playing drums at the age of 7 and, at 13, he was the winner of the Batuka International Drum Fest. In 2005, a year after the award, he was also the winner of the Modern Drummer’s Undiscovered Drummer Contest.

In addition to Sepultura, he was also a member of the band Gloria and 2ois. Eloy was also part of the Catholic Christian rock group Iahweh and as a teenager he was in the band of lead singer André Matos, who died in 2019.
