Railway Workers Day, celebrated this Tuesday, will not go unnoticed in Bauru. Through the Federation of the Union of Residents’ Associations of Bauru and the Region, the date will be remembered through tributes to the families of those who left their legacy to the municipality.
According to community leader Jesus Adriano dos Santos, the objective is to rescue the history of the railway workers who donated their time so that progress could reach the city.
‘April 30’ is marked as ‘Railway Day’, as on that date, in 1854, the first railway line in Brazil was inaugurated, on a trip that was attended by Emperor Dom Pedro II and Empress Tereza Cristi. The first Brazilian railway was called Estrada de Ferro Petrópolis, also known as Estrada de Ferro Mauá.
The event in honor of Railway Workers’ Day will be held on Wednesday, May 1st, in front of the ‘water tank’ in Vila Dutra, on block 5 of Avenida São Paulo.
