Talking Heads’ masterpiece, “Stop Making Sense” turns 40 today and gets a tribute album that even features Miley Cyrus and The National

On this same date, in 1984, Talking Heads released what is perhaps the band’s definitive material, the film “Stop Making Sense”. The premiere was at the San Francisco International Festival and the work became one of the most iconic in pop history.

Four decades later, the project was revisited, received a new visual restoration by the cool A24, was re-released last year and even made the band reunite after more than 20 years for promotional interviews. But, it didn’t just stop there.

If the group’s reunion didn’t extend to the stage, at least all of this resulted in a tribute album to “Stop Making Sense”. And precisely on this 40th anniversary of its release, the album’s tracklist and the artists involved in reinterpretations of the songs that marked the trajectory of one of the most incredible bands to emerge in music were released.

Driven by Paramore and Lorde covers of “Burning Down The House” and “Take Me To The River, respectively, the album also has other interesting names such as Miley Cyrus, The National, Blondshell, Toro Y Moi and the incredible Él Mató at a Motorized Police.

Also on the list is Norwegian indie singer Marie Ulven Ringheim, better known as Girl in Red, who made her own version of the track “Girlfriend Is Better”, released today as well. In total there are 17 songs, listed below. The launch is scheduled for May 17th.
