Theory points to a connection between Wolverine from X-Men ’97 and Hugh Jackman’s character in Deadpool 3.

Hugh Jackman may be playing a different version of his iconic Wolverine in Deadpool & Wolverine, following Disney’s acquisition of the X-Men in 2019. Ryan Reynolds had previously announced that Deadpool would join the MCU, and in 2021, it was confirmed that Jackman would return your role.
The first trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine it showed Jackman in a yellow and blue costume, similar to the one in the comics. In addition to exploring his journey with Deadpool through the multiverse and the confrontation against the villain Cassandra Nova.
The trailer suggests that Jackman may not be playing the same Wolverine from Fox’s X-Men franchise, reinforcing a fan theory that he could be playing the animated version of Wolverine from X-Men ’97 in live-action.
Deadpool & Wolverine and X-Men ’97 connection?
An interaction between Ryan Reynolds and Beau DeMayo, creator of the series, reinforced this connection between X-Men ’97 It is Deadpool & Wolverinein which DeMayo mentioned he was “passing the baton” for Reynolds.
The connection theory highlights that tragedy may have struck Wolverine’s reality in X-Men ’97, causing him to fail to protect his world. Which potentially led to the death of the X-Men and made him susceptible to recruitment by Deadpool and the Time Variance Authority (AVT). This scenario could be explored in the film, where Wolverine is portrayed dealing with the consequences of the X-Men’s defeat.
The transition of characters from animation to live-action is not unprecedented, as seen with Hayley Atwell as Captain Carter. This therefore raises questions about how this adaptation will influence the fate of the X-Men in the series, which still has more seasons planned.
The trailers for Deadpool & Wolverine present the characters’ multiversal adventure, but leave many plot details open. Thus suggesting the possibility of Deadpool and Wolverine working to reverse the tragedies that occurred at the end of the first season of X-Men ’97. This development could allow Wolverine to return to his universe, easing the burden of having failed his world.
