THE Chilean low cost company JetSmart will put into operation two direct flights to Brazil, still in 2022. It is a company strategy to take a ride on the demand generated during the 2023 Carnival, which promises to be very popular in Rio after the pandemic period is over. According to the Melhores Destinos website, the new stretches operated by JetSmart will be Buenos Aires/Rio de Janeiro and Santiago/Rio de Janeiro. The first of them will be available from December 6, and will have three weekly frequencies – on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays -, with tickets from 170 reais for customers who purchase a ticket by September 14th via the website.

Already the route of Santiago to Rio de Janeirowhich starts operations on December 29, will have five weekly flights: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday, with initial fares departing from 579 reais (with taxes included). It was in 2020 that JetSmart requested authorization from the National Civil Aviation Agency (Anac) to start operations between Brazilian cities, with its business model, which includes the offer of low-cost tickets, respecting efficiency, punctuality and safety. But no on-board services, entertainment system, Baggageseat booking and early check-in, makes it possible to make them cheaper.

The Municipal Secretary of Tourism, Antônio Mariano, celebrated the arrival of a new airline to the Rio de Janeiro market. Mariano highlighted that the initiative shows a clear recovery of the RioGaleão, and also the economy of Rio de Janeiro, which will become a priority destination for South American travelers. “The arrival of another airline in Rio de Janeiro is proof that our city and Galeão are in recovery. This expands not only connectivity, but competition, forcing best prices and services passengers”, said Mariano.
