A truck driver transporting a load of 30 tons of coffee between Espírito Santo and Minas Gerais was captured by criminals in the early hours of this Wednesday (8) on BR-259, in the region of Governador Valadares, in the Rio Doce region. After spending several hours under the gang’s control, the driver was released. However, the cargo valued at half a million reais was taken and has not yet been located.
The 33-year-old truck driver reported to the military that he left Vila Verde, in Espírito Santo, headed for Manhuaçu, in Zona da Mata. When passing through Governador Valadares, the trailer was paired with a VW T-Cross car. One of the passengers in the car fired a shot into the air and ordered the driver to stop the truck.
The criminals placed a hood over the driver’s head as soon as he got out of the truck and pulled him into the car, saying they would kill him if he reacted. His wrists were tied and he was held by the group for about an hour, until the car stopped and they ordered him to sit on the ground, on the edge of a ravine.
The car drove away, but the driver continued to be watched by a criminal, who said that, as the victim was obeying, he would not be killed. Some time later, he was put back in the car and spent another 15 minutes driving with the gang, until they stopped in a quiet place and took him out of the car again.
This time, the criminals said that, as he had collaborated, he would win a ‘prize’. The perpetrators put the driver’s license in his pocket and told him that he would be released, but that he should keep his eyes closed and lie on the ground for a while.
After a few minutes, the victim got up and tried to call the police, but was unable to do so. He took a ride to a station and, from there, a motorcycle taxi to a Civil Police station, where he was treated. After searching with the driver, the police located the truck on the banks of MGC-259, in the district of Santo Antônio do Pontal. The cargo, however, was not found, nor were the driver’s cell phones.
The owner of the cargo and trailer reported that he did not have insurance, as he had worked in the area for 10 years and had never been robbed. The case is investigated and the police search for the criminals.
