In response to the climate tragedy that affected Rio Grande do Sul, causing floods in more than 334 municipalities, leaving 8,100 people in shelters and 155,700 homeless, in addition to 90 deaths, the Association of Municipalities of Mato Grosso do Sul (Assomasul) mobilized to provide financial assistance to Restinga Seca, one of the most severely affected cities.
The president of Assomasul, Valdir Júnior, highlighted the necessary unity at this critical moment. “It is essential that we unite in solidarity action to support the residents of Restinga Seca, showing the strength of Brazilian municipalism in times of crisis”, he reveals.

Restinga Seca, which is a predominantly agricultural community, had its infrastructure compromised, including significant damage to the ERS-149, one of the region’s main roads, making access and communication with other locations difficult.
The mayor of Restinga Seca, Paulinho Salermo, expressed his gratitude for the initiative and appeal to other managers in Mato Grosso do Sul: “All help is very welcome at this time. I thank President Valdir Júnior for facilitating this crucial support.”
Assomasul is receiving donations of non-perishable food, blankets, clothes, food, and personal hygiene products at its headquarters. These contributions are essential to help communities in Rio Grande do Sul that continue to face the consequences of flooding. Those interested in helping can take their donations to the following address: Avenida Eduardo Elias Zahran, n° 3179 – Bairro Antônio Vendas – Campo Grande/MS, from 8am to 5pm.
