Brazil can celebrate three more vacancies at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Guilherme Costa and Maria Fernanda Costa, who had already qualified in the 400m freestyle, also guaranteed participation in the 200m freestyle events this Tuesday (07). In addition to them, Beatriz Dizotti won a place in the 1500m. The Brazil Trophy, the Olympic swimming qualifier for Paris, continues until next Saturday (11).

In addition to confirming her favoritism and becoming Brazil Trophy champion, Maria Fernanda Costa, Mafê, completed the race in 1m56s37 and was below the Olympic index. The brand, which guaranteed her another place in Paris 2024, is the new South American record in the race.

– What I’m experiencing this year is incredible. I’ve been trying really hard, dedicating myself a lot. I have matured a lot with swimming. It’s incredible and I’m very happy – said Mafê, after winning.

In addition to the champion, the podium had Stephanie Balduccini in second place with a time of 01:58.51 and Gabrielle Roncatto in third with 01:58.57. Both had a time above the index and will not go to the Olympics.

In the most anticipated men’s race on Tuesday night (07), the results were not as expected and only one Brazilian swimmer qualified.

Murilo Sartori was the champion of the event with a time of 1:46.98, however, above the Olympic rate, he was unable to place in Paris 2024. In addition to him, Fernando Scheffer, Olympic medalist in the event and third place in the Brazil Trophy, failed to qualify.

The positive highlight was Guilherme Costa, the Dog, who finished the race in second place with a time of 01:47.10. Despite the defeat, Cachorrão had already reached the index in another valid competition and secured a new place in the Paris Olympics.

In the longest race of the day, first place went to Beatriz Dizotti. The swimmer completed the 1500m freestyle in 16:14.02 and won the gold medal at the Brazil trophy.

Bia’s time was above the Olympic index, but, like Guilherme Costa in the Men’s 200m freestyle, the Brazilian had already reached the necessary time in another competition and, as she was not surpassed by any other athlete, she will be in Paris 2024.

– I love swimming this race. It’s the place where I find myself, where I feel at home. I have many dreams in mind, many goals. Today I understand that I went through difficult times, but that I am recovering and that Paris will be even better. – said Bia after winning first place in the race.

In addition to the places won in the three categories, the night featured two other finals. At the Men’s 400m medley, the champion was Stephan Steverink. The Flamengo swimmer finished the race with a time of 4:16.29, but was unable to secure an Olympic place.

We already 100m breaststroke women’s, the big winner was Ana Carolina Viera, an athlete from Pinheiros, with a time of 1:08.92. The athlete, however, also swam above the necessary rate to guarantee a place and is out of the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Brazilian swimmers return to the waters of Campos Afonsos this Wednesday (08) to compete in five other categories: men’s 200m butterfly, women’s 100m backstroke, men’s 200m breaststroke, women’s 200m medley and men’s 100m backstroke. The category finals start at 6pm, broadcast on Sportv2.
