Vaccination notification goes into countdown in Amazonas, warns Adaf

-

The notification of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) vaccination is counting down in Amazonas. Starting from this Tuesday, May 7th, producers have eight days, until May 15th, to communicate the completion of the procedure in person at one of the offices of the Agricultural and Forestry Defense Agency of the State of Amazonas (Adaf) or through the municipality’s remote service at (92) 99238-5568.

Cattle and buffalo breeders from 49 municipalities where vaccination is still mandatory must make the notification, a measure that constitutes the last step foreseen in an ordinance from the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) so that Amazonas and 16 other States and the Federal District can be nationally recognized as a foot-and-mouth disease-free zone without vaccination.

Vaccination against foot-and-mouth disease is one of the guidelines of Mapa’s National Foot-and-Mouth Disease Surveillance Program (Pnefa). The suspension of immunization has always been among the goals of the Government of Amazonas, through Adaf. The title expands the sale of Amazonian meat to other markets and promotes the national economy.

Producers who fail to comply with the notification put the health of their herd at risk, and are subject to fines of R$40 per animal, plus R$300 per property.

The last herd vaccination campaign against foot-and-mouth disease took place from March 15th to April 30th and covers the municipalities of: Alvarães, Amaturá, Anamã, Anori, Atalaia do Norte, Autazes, Barreirinha, Benjamin Constant, Beruri, Boa Vista do Ramos, Borba, Caapiranga, Careiro, Careiro da Várzea, Coari, Codajás, Fonte Boa, Iranduba, Itacoatiara, Itapiranga, Japurá, Jutaí, Manacapuru, Manaquiri, Manaus, Maraã, Maués, Nhamundá, Nova Olinda do Norte, Parintins, Rio Preto da Eva, Santo Antônio do Içá, São Paulo de Olivença, São Sebastião do Uatumã, Silves, Tabatinga, Tefé, Tonantins, Uarini, Urucará, Urucurituba, Barcelos, Carauari, Juruá, Novo Airão, Presidente Figueiredo, Santa Isabel do Rio Negro, São Gabriel da Cachoeira and part of Tapauá.

Foot-and-mouth disease is a disease that harms producers, entrepreneurs and rural families, causing the loss of production, the compulsory sacrifice of animals and the closure of properties.
