Interactive map shows roadblocks in RS in real time

The government of Rio Grande do Sul has made available an interactive road map of the state that allows drivers who need to travel between municipalities to monitor, in real time, the situation on state and federal highways. The map shows which roads are completely or partially blocked due to the heavy rains that hit the region. The floods caused extensive damage in locations throughout the state, such as submerged runways and collapsed bridges and barriers.

The map allows Internet users to click on the desired point and check the data. The information is updated by the Autonomous Department of Highways (Daer), based on data provided by the Federal Highway Police and the state’s Military Brigade Highway Command (CRBM), also covering highways granted to the private sector and those managed by Empresa Gaúcha of Highways (EGR).

On Tuesday morning (7), 95 sections of 41 highways had total and partial closures, including roads and bridges, which points to a slight improvement in the scenario. On Monday (6), there were 102 sections, on 58 highways, with total and partial closures.

Unclogging and reconstruction

The state’s Department of Logistics and Transport states that it has been working to clear the highways and normalize vehicle and pedestrian traffic.

Faced with the halt in road mobility, the Ministry of Transport announced that Rio Grande do Sul will receive around R$1 billion for the recovery of federal highways. The minister of the portfolio, Renan Filho, predicts that emergency routes will be reestablished by May 10th. The ministry guaranteed that it will prioritize the release of connections with the capital, Porto Alegre, to the north and south of the state, via BRs 116 and 290/RS.

The state government announced an extra credit of R$ 117.7 million in the budget, intended for the immediate recovery of state road infrastructure damaged by the rains, through restoration and general repairs on state roads, in addition to the reconstruction of regional connections.
