Running app shows ‘mouth of smoke’ in vacant land and ‘turtle birth’ in supermarket in ES | Holy Spirit

Changes to the map of a famous application used for physical activities are attracting the attention of users in Cariacica, which is located in Greater Vitória, Espírito Santo. Some points on the map are appearing with different names. There are cases of a supermarket marked as a “turtle birth point” and a vacant lot as a “mouth of smoke”.

Still in Cariacica, a square in the Alto da Boa Vista neighborhood appears in the application with the name “Praça Pedregulho”. There, however, is a square that was reopened in 2021, but has another official name.

The case that caught the most attention was in the Tiradentes neighborhood. Through the application, an icon of a cup of coffee appears, often used to mark coffee shops or bakeries. However, in the description of the place, the words “mouth of smoke” appear.

O g1 searched for the same spot using another sat nav and maps app. The location, in fact, is at the end of a street, where there is land without buildings and even with bushes.

“I use the app to record cycling activity. Then I had done an activity and when I finished I went to take a look at the data, distance, map, etc… That was when the Boca de Fumo location appeared. I know several people who use it, but never I heard comments about this,” the user reported.

The Strava application, which is widely used to carry out physical activities, such as cycling and running, shows the routes taken and how many kilometers are covered by the user. On the map, you can see that GPS information is captured by “mapbox”.

In the city of Vitória, for example, most of the points marked on the map match reality.

When comparing with other applications, such as Google Maps, for example, the same location shown on the Strava map does not appear, or is given a different name.

O g1 looked for the Strava application to understand if it is possible for users to make changes to points on the map, and edits to locations, but had not yet received feedback until the last update of this report.

The application has already generated curiosity for another reason: users who use it create routes that, when viewed on the map, end up forming drawings. Some prints went viral on the internet and show routes in animal shapes.

In one of them, a London runner took a route in the shape of a bee landing on a rose, a bird and even a tiger.

In Brazil, the joke generated several comments on a social network. The publication already has more than one million views and 835 comments.
