Man attacks highway police officer with machete and ends up dead in Minas Gerais

A 56-year-old man was killed after attacking a federal highway police officer with a machete in the early hours of last Saturday (4), in the city of Manhuaçu/MG.

In a press release, the Social Communication Center of the Superintendency of the Federal Highway Police (PRF), in Minas Gerais, reported that “a federal highway police officer, on duty, who was driving two people to the Civil Police Station, in city, when he was surprised by a third party who, armed with a machete, came towards him in an attempt to attack him.

Alerted, the police officer moved away and gave a command to the individual, with the intention of interrupting the action and avoiding a confrontation. Without result, the agent fired to repel unjustified imminent aggression and protect his physical integrity and that of third parties present at the scene.

Soon after neutralizing the unfair threat, the police officer called the Emergency Medical Care Service (SAMU) to assist the person who was shot. Upon arriving at the scene, the medical team confirmed the death of the aggressor, aged 56, who had a criminal record in incidents of contempt and threats against military police officers, assault on his sister, and threats against his ex-wife, ex-partner and neighbors.

Images from security cameras from nearby establishments recorded the action and should be used, together with other elements, in investigating the facts with the civil police themselves. The federal highway police officer was not injured and is supported by the psychosocial care team and the PRF Internal Affairs Department in Minas Gerais.” Completed the institution.
