Doctor suspected of being drunk is caught treating patients in emergency room, in MG

A doctor suspected of being drunk was caught seeing patients in the emergency room in Monte Sião, in the south of Minas. The Military Police were called and registered a police report.

The case happened around 7:20 am on Sunday (5). According to police records, the complaint was made by a 32-year-old patient who went to the Municipal Emergency Room for an appointment.

According to the patient’s report, when he was being treated he noticed that the doctor appeared to be under the influence of alcohol, having almost hit the patient’s eye with the toothpick used to remove his tongue and, after, causing him to feel anxious when checking his throat.

According to the patient, as soon as he left the office, he went to reception to report what had happened. When filming the situation, the suspected doctor allegedly tried to take the patient’s cell phone.

The coordinator of Municipal Emergency Care, Luciana Maria de Almeida, reported that she went to the location, but the doctor was not there. She spoke to the patient, clarifying that all appropriate measures would be taken and said that the doctors are hired by an outsourced company, which was also notified.

In a note issued on Sunday (5), the company Clinmed reported that it replaced the doctor as soon as it found out about the case, and that at no time was the emergency room unattended, as there was another professional there. The clinic also informed that administrative measures will be taken.

Mayor José Pocai Júnior (Avante) was also at the emergency room and recorded a video to inform the population.

“He arrived with a mask and people couldn’t understand how he was, what state he was in. He even helped two people and people complained. They [enfermeiras] They came to check and then the doctor’s services were halted along with the other people who needed their appointments. […] This never happened, first time. As soon as this happened, measures were already being taken. And we hope, of course, that this doesn’t happen again,” he said.

A EPTV Sul de Minasaffiliate TV Globocontacted the private clinic where the doctor works, but was informed that he was not working and it is not yet known whether he will make a statement.
