On the morning of this Monday, the 6th, Governor Jorginho Mello, the General Commander of the Santa Catarina Military Fire Brigade (CBMSC), Colonel Fabiano Bastos das Neves and the Deputy General Commander of the corporation, Colonel Jefferson de Souza welcomed the firefighters from the Task Forces (FTs) who returned from Rio Grande do Sul to rotate teams. The concentration took place at the corporation’s headquarters in Araranguá at 10 am.
The 32 military firefighters from Santa Catarina, who were part of the first team of firefighters in Brazil to travel to provide support to Rio Grande do Sul, worked since the first day of May and rescued more than 2 thousand people and 284 animals in the region of Lajeado, Santa Cruz do Sul and Guaíba, in Greater Porto Alegre.
Governor Jorginho Mello highlighted that he came to Araranguá especially to thank you for all the excellent work being carried out by the corporation in the face of the tragedy in Rio Grande do Sul.
The nine FT cells that moved to continue operating in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, total 39 military firefighters, in addition to the drone team and the new operation command. Ten 4×4 vehicles, 17 boats, 11 outboard motors and equipment for rescue in landslides were also sent. The two drones, which are capable of flying at night, even in rain, and have a thermal camera, will be used to locate victims and produce images for mapping the locations.
With this, Santa Catarina becomes the largest team of military firefighters working in support of Rio Grande do Sul.
