From a national perspective, in January 2024 there was the second highest number in the historical series of the Serasa Experian Business Birth Indicator, with 381,746 businesses opened in the period – a difference of 1,350 CNPJs from the number registered in August 2021. Considering only the days useful, there were 12 openings per minute. Compared to January 2023, the increase was 7.3%.

“In January, according to the Central Bank, we had a growth of 0.6% in economic activity and an accumulated variation of 2.47% in the last 12 months. These factors, linked to the reduction of the Selic rate to 10.75%, also influence the emergence of new businesses, as they affect the cost of capital for entrepreneurs and positively impact the operating costs of companies”, analyzes the economist at Serasa Experian, Luiz Rabi.

Of the total number of companies opened in January this year, more than 280 thousand were Individual Microentrepreneurs (MEIs). Rabi analyzes that what may explain this predilection of entrepreneurs for the category is less bureaucracy for opening, reduced taxation and attractive benefits.
