17-year-old teenager dies after touching an electric fence in Acre; voltage was above permitted | Acre

A 17-year-old teenager died from electrocution last Sunday (5) after touching an electric fence on a private property in Cruzeiro do Sul, in the interior of Acre.

According to information from the Acre Military Fire Department (CBMAC), the teenager, who lived in Mâncio Lima, was in Cruzeiro do Sul at his grandfather’s house, and had arrived on the same day (5).

According to the statement collected by CBMAC, when passing in front of the property, which was surrounded by electricity, the victim saw the fruit tree and tried to pass through the fence. The moment he touched the wires, he received the electrical discharge, becoming stuck. The region was isolated for rescue work.

The death was certified by the Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu) team. He had two cardiac arrests. The body was sent to the city’s Legal Medical Institute (IML).

Doctor Miguel Washing, who responded to the incident through Samu, said that between the phone call and the team traveling to the location, it took around seven minutes. According to him, when they arrived at the location, there was a man performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), due to this electrical shock that the boy received.

“When we arrived, we sent the patient to the vehicle, vital signs were monitored there, and soon after, we intubated the patient to maintain an airway and CPR continued there, during 45 minutes, in which all resuscitation protocols were carried out, but unfortunately the patient did not return, due to the large electrical shock he received”, he explained.

Electricity company Energisa told g1 that the accident occurred outside the transmission network managed by the company, and said that the electric fence was at 227 volts, above the permitted limit. “The team measured the voltage of the fence together with the Fire Department and found that it was well above the permitted level”, he added.

In the recorded incident, it was reported that the owner was taken to the police station by the Military Police (PM-AC), suspected of manslaughter. In his statement, he stated that he was not aware of the voltage on the electric fence. The man also said that he was tested at the time of installation. The power to the site had to be turned off.
