The Day the Sun Rose on the Wrong Side (Process)

The process O Dia que o Sol Nasceu do Lado Errado, begins its presentations on May 10, 2024, at 8 pm at Cia dos Atores Headquarters, a show created by the director, Ricardo Santos, nominated for the 2019 Shell Prize, for the show Rhinoceros .

Inspired by the work of playwright Harold Pinter, known for exploring themes such as loneliness and existential anguish, and the text “Finnis Terrae”, by author Téia Porto, the show “O Dia que o Sol Nasceu do Lado Errado (Processo)” is the result of the open process of the third artistic residency under the direction of Ricardo Santos. In a catastrophic universe, where loneliness and existential anguish are central, the show challenges conventions and delves into the human essence.

Ricardo Santos, in his creative process, demonstrates an affinity with the theater of the absurd. His passion for this theatrical style, which defies logic and subverts traditional conventions, is evident at every stage of the development of his projects. By delving into the absurd, Santos finds creative freedom, allowing his ideas to flow freely and challenging both himself and the cast to explore new territories of artistic expression.

In ‘The Day the Sun Rose on the Wrong Side (Process)’, we are confronted with the human condition in the face of a world on the verge of collapse. Amidst chaos, wars and a desperate search for outdated values, a man finds himself on a journey of self-knowledge. Reviewing his life, he questions family values, marriage, destiny and his own essence, while searching for an escape route in a scenario of emotional ruin. A deep reflection on the present and the future in a world adrift.
