Monetary authority issues statement to say that it supports municipality employees who work in Porto Alegre (RS)

The BC (Central Bank) issued a note this Sunday (May 5, 2024) in solidarity with the people of Rio Grande do Sul due to the floods affecting the State. The brief statement states that the board of directors of the monetary authority “expresses support in a special way” to employees who work in Porto Alegre and their families.

Note of solidarity from the Collegiate Board of the Central Bank to the population of Rio Grande do Sul

“The Board of Directors of the Central Bank expresses its solidarity with the population of Rio Grande do Sul, who are facing a situation of extreme calamity with the rains that hit the entire State.

“The Board expresses in a special way its support for the Central Bank employees and employees who work in the capital of Rio Grande do Sul and their respective families.

“We are sure that, soon, Rio Grande do Sul will be back, contributing, as always, to the economic development of Brazil.”

TRAGEDY NUMBERS

The number of deaths in Rio Grande do Sul rose to 75 due to the storms that hit the region since April 28, according to a bulletin released at 12pm this Sunday (May 5, 2024) by the State Civil Defense. Meanwhile, 103 people remain missing.

The storm affected 334 of the 497 municipalities in Rio Grande do Sul. According to Civil Defense, the State has:

  • affected municipalities: 334
  • people in shelters: 16,609
  • homeless: 88,019
  • affected: 780,725
  • injured: 155
  • missing: 103
