The Executive’s assessment is that the Gaucho governor’s posts about the floods are inappropriate with the federal government

The federal government assesses that the posts by the governor of Rio Grande do Sul, Eduardo Leite (PSDB), related to the floods in the State have a reckless tone and are inappropriate with the federal government. This increased tension between the politician and President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), according to the report. Power360.

In a publication on X (formerly Twitter), the PT member treated the rains as“reflexes” climate change and said he spoke to Leite on the phone.

The Chief Executive said he had placed the government “available” of the State and that, “whatever is necessary”will “combine efforts” to the state government and city halls.

Lula’s statement came minutes after Eduardo Leite made a post on the social network asking the PT member to send “immediately” all possible air support for Rio Grande do Sul. postLeite marked the president’s official profile and stated that dozens of municipalities were in an emergency situation due to the rains.

Rains in the South

At least 31 people have already died because of the rains in Rio Grande do Sul since Sunday (28.Apr.2024). The information is contained in the latest Civil Defense report, released at 9am, this Friday (May 3, 2024).

The storm affected 235 of the 496 municipalities in Rio Grande do Sul. According to Civil Defense, the State has:

  • 351,369 people affected;
  • 17,087 homeless;
  • 7,165 in shelters;
  • 74 missing; It is
  • 56 wounds.

On Thursday (May 2), the state governor, Eduardo Leite (PSDB), stated that the Guaíba river, in Porto Alegre, should break a record and reach a level higher than that recorded in 1941. The forecast is that the level of water reaches 5 meters.

The FAB (Brazilian Air Force) will build a field hospital in Lageado, south of Porto Alegre. The improvised hospital structure will have 60 beds.

In total, the Armed Forces have already employed 932 soldiers, 68 vehicles and engineering equipment, 15 boats and 14 aircraft to rescue flood victims.
