The municipality expects to receive, in the coming days, a technical and commercial proposal for the carrying out a detailed risk assessment, controlled dismantling and monitoring. After that, the bidding process for hiring will begin.

“Once the services have been carried out, with due security, the attraction will be reopened if the new report allows it,” said the city hall, without specifying a date.

According to the Executive, In recent months, there has been a “considerable decrease” in tourist activity in the Tabuleiro districtwhere the waterfall is located.

In a statement, the municipality highlighted that “the other natural and tourist attractions in Conceição do Mato Dentro remain open and available for visitation”. The city has more than 30 waterfalls.

The waterfall was closed for four months, until previous analyzes indicated that the phenomenon was possibly linked to natural causes.

In October 2022, a specialized company was hired to monitor and assess the risks of the waterfall walls and, in November 2023, risk of rock displacement was found.

“Photos were taken from different angles of the location of the discontinuity that occurred in 2021, where a transverse structural fissure measuring approximately 10 meters in length, with an opening of approximately 0.15 meters, at its widest point can be seen nearby, being this location adjacent to the discontinued area of ​​the massif in 2021”, informed the Fire Department at the time.
