The itinerant Abema program began with technical visits to Pindorama, a cooperative based on family farming, located in the municipality of Penedo and Foz do Rio São Francisco. The technical agenda concluded with debates about the case of Braskem (a global petrochemical company that was accused, in 2019, by the Brazilian Geological Survey (CPRM), a federal government agency, of causing soil instability through the extraction of rock salt) , from the perspective of environmental and social challenges.

In the plenary session this Monday, the 29th, a working meeting was held to define the priorities of Abema 2024. Relevant topics were discussed such as the Rural Environmental Registry (CAR), biodiversity, water resources, deforestation, environmental education and the climate agenda, among other demands.

Secretary Julie Messias spoke of the relevance of the meeting. “Abema connects us and enables the exchange of information, experiences and best practices between state environmental agencies. It plays a fundamental role in strengthening the country’s environmental management. Here, in this space of participatory governance, we establish joint strategies for common environmental challenges, such as biodiversity conservation, combating deforestation and fires, water resources management and others,” she stated.

We welcome everyone, and be invited to future events that can help build a better environment for everyone,” he noted.

The president of Abema, Maureen Lazzaretti, addressed the importance of Abema and the union of Brazilian states, which, even with different biomes, must be united in favor of the environment, with more sustainable alternatives.

“I thank everyone at the State Secretariat for the Environment and Water Resources of Alagoas, as we are having a technical immersion at this meeting. This meeting allows us to be together, so I also thank my colleagues; This demonstrates the importance that Abema has for all state environmental agencies,” he noted.

On that occasion, it was agreed to create two working groups (GTs), one linked to aquaculture activities and the other related to vegetation suppression.
