The Federal Highway Police (PRF) opened the Yellow Maio Campaign, during an action carried out on the morning of this Tuesday (30), at km 524 of BR-040, in Contagem (MG).
During the month of May, traffic educational activities will be intensified in all 17 police stations in Minas Gerais. Drivers and motorcyclists will be approached and invited to watch lectures and educational videos on safe traffic behavior.
The activities will involve the participation of civil society, public bodies and partner institutions. This broad interinstitutional involvement reflects the seriousness and need for a joint effort to reduce the rates of traffic accidents and deaths, which continue to be a significant challenge for public safety.
The PRF invites users of Minas Gerais highways to adopt correct behaviors, contributing to safer traffic for everyone and promoting a culture of peace, after all, “Peace in traffic starts with you”.
Yellow May – The Yellow May movement emerged in 2011, following the UN’s establishment of the decade of action for traffic safety. Since then, the month of May has become a reference for the intensification of actions in several countries, aiming to reduce traffic violence. The color yellow was chosen because it represents the “attention” sign at traffic lights around the world.
Yellow May has become a global awareness movement to reduce traffic accidents. The objective is to carry out, throughout the month of May, a coordinated action between public authorities and civil society with the intention of putting issues related to road safety on the agenda and mobilizing the whole of society, involving the most diverse segments: government bodies, companies, professional associations, associations, federations and organized civil society to discuss the topic, engage in actions and spread knowledge, increasing awareness of traffic safety in the most different spheres.
