The result of scientific research, the work Oficinas de Ideias: mapping and diagnosis of research environments at IFMT Campus Cuiabá – Cel. Octayde Jorge da Silva was published in March and presents an overview of the relationship between research environments and the popularization of science. The book is authored by the State auditor of the General Comptroller of the State of Mato Grosso do Sul (CGE-MS), Thiago Augusto de Oliveira Marinho Ferreira, and the research support coordinator at the Federal Institute of Mato Grosso (IFMT – Campus Cuiabá), Raquel Maria Mallezan Ribeiro. With 119 pages, the work also features the participation of high school students integrated into the Institute’s technical and undergraduate courses.

In scientific production, research environments function as inducers of science, technology, innovation and entrepreneurship, as they enable solutions to societal challenges – which involve the world of work and public administration. According to Ferreira, who is assigned to the Specialized Audit Unit in Social Policies of Education and Social Assistance (UAPES) at CGE-MS, the content of the book can contribute so much to his duties, especially in audits related to research environments of educational institutions in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, as well as the context of CGE-MS in general.

“The methodology can be explored, for example, in one of the aspects of internal audit activities, which is assessment. Which, in turn, seeks to carry out an exploratory study of the audited unit in order to map and diagnose its activities, applying the results of this work to improve the performance of the body itself”, he explained.

The auditor also stated that the application of the methodology in the context of Controllership is made possible because it is an approach that allows data measurement, mapping and diagnosis. “Although the research adopted the IFMT as an empirical reference, the objectives outlined in it and the methodology used admit replicability. Thus, its step-by-step instructions can be reproduced here in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul and even become the subject of recommendations in future audits”, he concluded.

The importance of the research that resulted in the preparation of the book can also be seen when the investment of several countries in organizing efforts to map and diagnose their research environments is verified. For the IFMT research support coordinator and author of the work, Raquel Ribeiro, “conducting research does not always culminate in the discovery of something spectacular for humanity, but it allows improvements and improvements to everyday issues. Before this research, for example, we did not have a clear and objective mapping of the environments available to be used for research at the Institution. With the support of management, we now have regulations so that the community has access and the environment has become multi-user,” she emphasized.

According to the Internet Systems Technology student, Lucas Gomes, what caught his attention most throughout the process of preparing the work was the possibility of exploring the campus and discovering all the structure available for research.

“Assisting in the development of the book cover design and capturing photos of the research environments that fit within the concept defined at the beginning of the project was also a satisfactory step”, he shared.
