Carminha Paiva promotes special session on children with autism in Sergipe

Aracaju (SE) – On the initiative of state deputy Carminha Paiva (Republicans-SE), the Legislative Assembly of Sergipe promoted a special session to debate Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), this Monday (29), continuing the actions carried out during the Abril Azul campaign. The event brought together experts, mothers, fathers, teachers, educational psychologists and neuropediatricians to talk about the topic: “The child with autism in Sergipe”.

For the republican, Autism Spectrum Disorder is a complex condition, which changes the lives of not only the children who experience it, but also their families and communities. She highlighted that throughout the world, diagnosis rates for this disorder are increasing, and it is essential that everyone is prepared to face the challenges that this brings, especially here in the state.

“As policymakers, we must have a duty and responsibility to ensure that all children, regardless of their specific needs, have access to appropriate education, healthcare and support. However, we know that these resources are often scarce and insufficient, leaving autistic families and children in a helpless situation. It is essential that we work together to improve the quality of life of these children and their families. We need to invest in inclusive education programs, training our teachers and health professionals to understand the specific needs of children with autism and provide the necessary support for their development. That’s why I made a point of proposing this space for dialogue and knowledge for everyone, so that together we can build effective public policies for people with ASD in Sergipe”, he highlights.

Carminha also drew attention to the need for greater awareness and acceptance of autism by society. “We must promote inclusion and equality, combating the stigma and discrimination that often surround this condition,” he declared, pledging to work tirelessly to ensure that children with autism receive the respect, dignity and resources necessary for a successful quality life.
