A Public Hearing debated the return of Petrobras to Sergipe this Tuesday, 30th, at the Aracaju City Council (CMA). The opportunity, which was created by councilor Elber Batalha (PSB), brought together unions such as the Unified Union of Oil, Petrochemical, Chemical and Plastic Workers in the states of Alagoas and Sergipe (Sindipetro) and entities committed to the agenda.

Among the topics covered, the exploration model to be adopted in the state, with data presented by Sindipetro on the years of work carried out with the land form, as well as the benefits of Sergipe Águas Profundas. According to the union, without this method, oil production reaches 7.9 thousand barrels per day and, with it, it can reach 240 thousand. Furthermore, gas production, which without it is 0.05 mm m³ per day, can reach 18 mm m³ per day.

For Thiago Italo, director of Sindipetro, the moment is for unity so that the best happens in our state. “Since we lost the chance of taxes and job creation for the people of Sergipe. Our block on the high seas is not only owned by Petrobrás, but also by other companies, so it needs to do something so that only the exploration of oil and gas on our coast does not become viable. May she bring UPGN to Sergipe. We need the strength of politicians and more people to change all of this. With this, more than 100 thousand jobs can be created”, he explained.

Pedro Messias, director of the union, also highlighted the other media affected by this departure in 2018. “We lost a lot of revenue and jobs. Hotels, commerce, supplier companies and other sectors that moved the economy here. Around 30% of hotels were staffed weekly by direct workers and outsourced workers who passed through here. The hearing was very successful, and with the help of councilman Elber and more people, we will be able to bring everything back”, he commented.

José Augusto Andrade, director of innovation and entrepreneurship at the Federal Institute of Sergipe (IFS), detailed how education was also affected. “If we analyze it, we will realize that Petrobrás has always brought wealth, not only financially, but also in other aspects, such as education. Sergipe has a strong partnership with Petrobrás, which is why some things at the institute were created to train the public with courses such as Oil and Gas. All students who took the courses prepared research projects and received scholarships. Most of them remained at the institution, graduated and continued working in the area. It is a very big loss not only for the state, but also for the students”, he reported from the stand.

According to councilor Elber, the occasion was very fruitful, and this return is one of Lula and the federal government’s commitments. “The most important thing about this hearing were the debates and the forces to accelerate this. Petrobras has always been one of the greatest precursors of Sergipe’s economic development, a major generator of income and jobs, driving a large chain. This resumption is a commitment from President Lula and can happen, even more so with mobilizations like today’s. People from Sergipe need to come together to get all this back,” he declared.
