The five people who died in the accident on BR-116, in Papanduva, in the North of Santa Catarina, on Sunday (28), they were between 16 and 58 years old and were in two of the three cars that were involved in the crash.
The youngest victim was identified as Hevelyne Horthcopf, a teenager whose birthday was on the day of the accident.
In addition to the dead, a 2-year-old girl was injured and taken to hospital in serious condition. In total, three cars were involved in the head-on collision (see the names belowO).
- Elenita Pellin, 56 years old: driver of the Onix car;
- Hevelyne Horthcopf, 16 years old: passenger in the Onix
- Marivone Horthcopf Felix, 37 years old: passenger in the Onix;
- Adão Izequel Barros, 48 years old: passenger on the Onix;
- Jaison Júnior Alves, 23 years old: Palio driver.
The identities were provided by Funerária São Judas Tadeu, in Videira, and by Marmoraria e Funerária Seidel, in Papanduva, this Tuesday (30).
When contacted, the Federal Highway Police (PRF) reported that Palio, “for an unknown reason, he went the wrong way and collided head-on with the Onix, which was traveling in the opposite direction“. An expert accident report will be prepared by the agency and handed over to the Civil Police for an investigation into the accident.
A Hyundai was also involved in the collision. O driver and driver of the car were not injured.
A injured child was in the same vehicle. According to rescuers, witnesses who were at the scene reported that the victim was taken to Papanduva Hospital in serious condition. There is no information about her current health status.
