Amid the heat wave, the cities of Caldas, Monte Verde and Maria da Fé, all in the south of Minas, entered the list of cities that recorded the lowest temperatures in Brazil, between Monday night (29) and this Tuesday morning (30). The measurement is made by the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet).

The thermometers registered 10.6 °C in Caldas, in first place in the ranking. Next come Monte Verde, with 10.8 °C and Maria da Fé, with 11.4 °C. See the list:

  • Caldas (MG): 10.6°C
  • Monte Verde (MG): 10.8°C
  • Maria da Fé (MG): 11.4°C
  • Campos do Jordão (SP): 11.8°C
  • Nova Friburgo-Salinas (RJ): 11.9°C
  • General Carneiro (PR): 13.1°C

But temperatures are expected to rise there. This because the heat wave that hits part of Brazil is expected to reach the south of the state. The heat forecast was updated this Monday (29) by Climatempo.

Initially, the heat wave would last until this Wednesday, the May 1st holiday, Labor Day. But the map released by Climatempo shows that the heat will hit cities in the Triângulo Mineiro, Alto Paranaíba, Zona da Mata, Sul de Minas, Grande BH and Central.

In the case of the Triângulo region, the alert is red, with the temperature expected to be up to 5°C above average.

A heat wave is a phenomenon in which temperatures remain above average for a period of more than two consecutive days. Typically, these phenomena affect large areas and pose a risk to human health.
