Companhia Mineira de Açúcar e Álcool (CMAA) plans to invest R$3.5 billion by 2033 to expand its operations in Minas Gerais and Brazil. This includes increasing sugar and ethanol production capacity at its three units in the Triângulo Mineiro. The plan also foresees the creation of 3,000 new direct jobs, in addition to the current 4,000 jobs. With these investments, CMAA’s annual revenue should rise from R$3 billion this year to around R$4 billion in 2025.

“We trust in the continued growth of the sugar-energy market and the potential of the Triângulo Mineiro to increase sugar and ethanol production. We defined a series of investments in our three plants, renewing our commitment to this sector, vital for the socioeconomic and sustainable development of Minas Gerais and the country”, highlights Carlos Eduardo Turchetto Santos, CEO of CMAA.

CMAA had a positive year, with a 16.5% increase in net revenue in 2023/2024 (R$2.54 billion) compared to the previous period. Growth of 12% is expected in 2024/2025, reaching around R$3 billion in revenue. Sugar production should exceed 700 thousand tons, while ethanol production could decrease by 2.9%, reaching 340 thousand m3, and energy production will remain at 380 thousand MWh.

These data were presented during the 7th edition of the Association of Sugar and Energy Industries of Minas Gerais, by the Alcohol Manufacturing Industry Union of the State of Minas Gerais (SIAMIG), in Uberaba, MG. State sugar-energy production also grew in the 2023/2024 cycle, with Minas Gerais contributing 81.3 million tons of sugarcane, representing 11.4% of national production, totaling 713.2 million tons, according to the National Supply Company ( Conab).

“The sugar-energy sector is one of the most important agribusiness production chains in Minas Gerais and the country, generating employment and income and consolidating itself as a strategic source in the energy transition to a low-carbon economy. Furthermore, it represents an important renewable energy alternative and mitigation of the risk of climate change that impacts the planet”, highlights the CEO of CMAA.
