Works at Epig are intensified with extended work shifts

The Government of the Federal District (GDF) began work this Monday (29) with extended hours for concreting the asphalt paving of the Estrada Parque Indústrias Gráficas (Epig) works. With the teams’ shift extended, the expectation is to free up more lanes of the road in the coming days, thus reducing traffic jams in the region.

Services are concentrated in front of Octogonal, in the third lane of the section towards SIG towards EPTG. The Secretary of Works and Infrastructure, Valter Casimiro, kicked off this new stage of construction and emphasized the importance of intensification. “We determined that the company would increase shifts so that we could release another lane on the stretch as quickly as possible, thus completing the reverse lane in the region,” says Casimiro. “With this extended work we will certainly reduce the execution time of the work. We are in a complex part due to the flow of cars that pass through here, but the objective is to reduce impacts on traffic and inconvenience for the population”, adds the secretary.

To date, four of the road’s six lanes – three in each direction – have already received sections of the new rigid concrete pavement, replacing the previous asphalt. With an investment of R$156 million, 140 workers (direct and indirect) work daily to guarantee a safer, more efficient and comfortable journey for almost 25 thousand daily drivers.

The reconstruction of Epig is part of the Eixo Oeste Corridor, which will be 38.7 km long, connecting the main roads from Sol Nascente/Pôr do Sol to Plano Piloto

The rigid pavement will be applied along the 12 km length of Epig, covering both directions of the road. Civil engineer Carlos Magno, from the DF Department of Works and Infrastructure, highlights the advantages of the material used in the intervention. “Rigid pavement’s main advantage is its durability, generally twice as long as flexible pavement, around 20 years. Furthermore, it requires less maintenance, which brings savings and greater comfort and peace of mind for the population,” he explains.

With a small shop in front of the project, saleswoman Ivana Lígia Simões states that she has been following the work of the teams daily and believes that the expansion of shifts will be beneficial for drivers and pedestrians. “I’m here every day, and it’s been an organized work, of course detours are necessary, but I believe that with this work at night it will be faster, more efficient and we will soon have wonderful results”, she says.

West Axis Corridor

The reconstruction of Epig is part of the Eixo Oeste Corridor, which will be 38.7 km long, connecting the main routes from Sol Nascente/Pôr do Sol to Plano Piloto. The objective is to reduce travel time between the two regions to 30 minutes.

To this end, the GDF is building an exclusive bus lane in the BRT system, in addition to nine viaducts, terminals, pedestrian crossings and cycle paths.

For logistics and security reasons, the services are carried out in six, the first of which is located between the intersection of EPTG and Epig. It covers the implementation of the BRT Corridor, the construction of two new viaducts, installation of cycle paths, drainage works, paving, signage, landscaping, sidewalks and urban furniture.
