Ticket prices for the second clash between Amazonas and Flamengo, valid for the third stage of the Copa do Brasil, have generated controversy. For the match that will take place at Arena da Amazônia, in Manaus, on May 22nd, tickets are being sold for up to R$1,500. In view of this, the Public Defender’s Office of the State of Amazonas (DPE-AM) filed a Public Civil Action in the State Court requesting a 30% reduction in prices.

What about fans who have already purchased tickets? In this case, the action seeks reimbursement of the difference in values and the suspension of sales for a period of 48 hours. With this deadline, those responsible for selling tickets will have the opportunity to make the necessary adjustments, as requested by the Public Defender’s Office. Several fans contacted the Consumer Protection agency to complain about the prices charged and, for this reason, the action against Amazonas was filed.

We carried out an analysis of the prices in force and, in our opinion, these values reflect an exorbitant and unjustified increase, which is prohibited by the Consumer Protection Code. The Federal Constitution, when addressing the economic order, establishes two principles: the principle of free enterprise, that is, economic freedom, and that of consumer protection, and neither of these principles is absolute in our constitutional legislation‘, stated Chrístiano Pinheiro, public defender.

Therefore, it is necessary that these principles are in harmony and, therefore, we proposed the action, in order to find a balance between obtaining a profit for Amazonas and consumer protection, so that the prices charged are not considered abusive and exorbitant‘, added Cristiano.

One of the arguments presented to justify the request to reduce ticket prices is the comparison with the amounts charged for games played by other major clubs in Brazil held in Manaus. For example, in recent Flamengo, Vasco and Santos matches in the Amazonian capital, the average price for the most expensive stand was R$230. However, for the Copa do Brasil clash, a seat in this sector is being sold for R$ $400.

The fact is that Amazonas Futebol Clube, taking advantage of a game against a nationally renowned team, intends to set ticket prices at abusive values that are completely out of step with the market reality, if we compare it with the big clubs on the national scene that have already competed matches here, including Flamengo itself‘, says an excerpt from the civil action.
