Governor Mauro Mendes (União Brasil) announced, in the early afternoon of this Monday (29), that he intends to grant another 2 thousand kilometers of state highways to the private sector by the end of the year.

“These concessions will allow the State to become the second with the highest number of highways granted, second only to São Paulo, which has a network [rodoviária] of many years”, highlighted Mauro in an interview for the program Macro em Pauta, from Exame magazine.

The governor did not reveal, in the interview, which sections of the highways will be for concession.

According to Mauro and the State Secretariat for Infrastructure and Logistics (Sinfra), more than 2 thousand kilometers of highways in Mato Grosso are already under concession from the private sector.

The stretches under concession are on highways MT-338, MT-010, MT-048, MT-242, MT-140, MT-491, MT-235, MT-130, MT-100, MT-320, MT-208 , MT-220, MT-246, MT-343, MT-339 and MT-358.

In the interview, Mauro said that the government’s idea is to build and pave the highways and hand them over to the private sector to carry out improvements and maintenance. The objective, according to the governor, is to guarantee low tariffs and not burden the productive sector. The expected term of the concessions is 30 years.

“The new money that comes in, with the years of collection, we will pave more roads. Those that are viable go to the private sector. Those that don’t have it, as it has low traffic, remain with the State to carry out maintenance,” he declared.

Last week, Mauro also announced an infrastructure program to attract more private investment and population to Mato Grosso, which will be called “MT 33”. The action is a way of reducing the impacts of the changes caused by the Tax Reform, which will take effect from 2033.
