The Environmental Institute (IMA) released this weekend’s bathing bulletin for Alagoas beaches. According to the report, 47 areas are suitable for bathing and another 19 should be avoided by bathers.

Water samples were collected at 66 points, from Pontal do Peba to Maragogi, between the 22nd and 23rd of this month.

After analysis, technicians from the environmental agency found that of the 24 stretches of the south coast, only four should be avoided by bathers. They are: Praia de Duas Barras, about 200m south of the mouth of the Jequiá river; Lagoa Azeda Beach, in front of the Eutíquio Quintela Municipal School; Niquim River, about 300m from Foz and Praia do Saco, in front of the main street.

The city of Maceió has the largest number of areas unsuitable for bathing. Of the 20 points evaluated by IMA, nine are not recommended for swimming, equivalent to 45% of sections. On the north coast, 23 points were evaluated. Of these, six do not have good water quality.

The IMA recommends that bathers avoid, at any time, using areas that are directly under the influence of rivers, canals and streams. Furthermore, it asks that residents of Alagoas and tourists not use areas that are directly under the influence of algal blooms, especially in stretches of
beaches from Avenida to Sobral.
