Deputy José Lucas Melo was off duty and walking his dog when he saw a man attack his partner and knock her to the ground during an argument, in the northern region of Palmas. After witnessing the scene, the police officer arrested the attacker.

According to the chief delegate of the 63rd Police Station of Paraíso, the 35-year-old man pulled the 23-year-old victim by the hair and then pushed her, causing her to fall in the middle of the street. The agent then approached the couple and carried out the arrest on Thursday (25).

The police chief comments that, regardless of the time or place, he acts to protect life and repress crimes. “I am committed that law and justice must be applied without hesitation, regardless of time or place, whenever the life and integrity of any person are in danger,” he says.

The man was charged under the Maria da Penha Law and released after paying bail to respond to legal proceedings in freedom.

Those involved were taken to the Women’s Assistance Center, in Taquaralto, with the support of a Military Police vehicle.
