School director is investigated for alleged embezzlement of student aid cards in Bahia

Civil police officers carried out a search and seizure warrant, this Thursday (25), at the Professora Aurivaldina Joazeiro State School, in Itamaraju, in the extreme south of Bahia, in an action investigating alleged student aid card diversion of the State government program. The director of the educational institution is suspected of the crime.

According to information gathered by the reporting team at TV Santa Cruz, an affiliate of Rede Bahia, the school director’s defense reported that she has already returned part of the money collected improperly and will pay a bond of R$5,000.

During the investigations, civil police officers identified several victims, students at the school, who reported that they did not receive the student aid card, which distributed amounts of R$150 monthly to regular students.

They also said that when they contacted the card center, they were informed that several purchases had been made in various commercial establishments in the city. Other victims also said they were not even aware of the card’s existence.

According to the Civil Police, images were obtained from security cameras from commercial establishments in the city that prove that the director made purchases using several cards in the students’ names.

The search and seizure warrant was carried out with the aim of locating documents that could help identify all victims who had their benefits diverted.

Among the precautionary measures that the school director will have to comply with are removal from her duties for a period of 180 days, payment of bail, in addition to electronic monitoring.

In a note, the State Department of Education (SEC) informed that it will immediately open an investigation to investigate the facts and will take the appropriate measures, based on the information collected.

He also said that in relation to the police investigation, “he will make available any and all documents necessary for the investigations, which are the responsibility of the competent bodies of the Police and the Judiciary.”
