The actions involved the participation of several rural communities in the municipalities, such as Povoado Cruz, in Delmiro Gouveia; and Tinguí, Moreira de Baixo, Cal, Tabuleiro and Alto dos Coelhos, in Água Branca. Several topics were covered, including climate change, technologies for living in the semi-arid region, hunting and conservation of the Caatinga biome, and Caatinga Conservation Units.

The first activity of the week was the lecture “Challenges of Coexistence with the Semiarid Region and the Climatic Conditions of the Caatinga”, given by the IMA biologist and environmental consultant, Wictor Thomas, to high school students at the Luiz Augusto State School in Delmiro Gouveia. Thomas highlights the role of environmental education, highlighting that the Caatinga is a biome with unique biodiversity.

“It is possible, through these actions, to promote environmental awareness and highlight the importance of coexistence with the semi-arid region, biodiversity and the crucial role that the biome plays in the northeast region and in Brazil”, explains the consultant.

In addition to the lectures, students from the Federal University of Alagoas (Ufal) Campus Sertão, located in Delmiro Gouveia, participated in a 6 km trail in the Wildlife Refuge (RVS) of Morros do Craunã and Padre.
