A motorcycle taxi driver suspected of raping a 31-year-old passenger was arrested, on Wednesday (24), in the municipality of Barcelos, in the interior of Amazonas. The victim requested a trip to a supermarket, but the motorcycle taxi driver diverted the route and committed the abuse.
Delegate Rodrigo Monfroni Rocha, from the 75th Interactive Police Station (DIP) of Barcelos, reported that the search to locate the perpetrator began immediately after the victim attended the police unit and reported what had happened.
“The victim called the motorcycle taxi driver to take her to the supermarket, but was surprised when he diverted his route and took her to an abandoned house on João Enecy road, in Riacho Verde, where he took off her clothes and raped her,” explained the delegate.
According to the police, shortly after the crime the man fled and the victim went to the police station. He was located and arrested in a bar in the municipality.
The Civil Police are investigating whether other women have already been victims of the suspect, with the same modus operandi.
The man was charged with heinous rape and will remain in court.
