Endel Alves Gomes de Oliveira

I am very happy to have had the precious opportunity to have been one of the honored students who were able to pursue a doctorate in Bioethics at the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum and to have received – undeservedly – a scholarship for the first two academic years (the propaedeutic year and the year of research).

The doctoral program in Bioethics at the Regina Apostolorum offers a high level of training, which for me is essential to be able to respond to the challenges of secular society. Bioethics is one of the most urgent and necessary issues of our time and addressing this issue is, in fact, a crucial step in the context of the New Evangelization, where people are constantly confronted with modern bioethical problems and decisions. The dignity of human life and the problems associated with technological progress must be approached with knowledge and a correct perspective. Therefore, faithful Catholic education is a fundamental solution to restoring culture.

This financial support will help me be ready to organize and establish a Catholic University Campus in Brazil, in collaboration with the entire Regina Apostolorum faculty. This doctoral degree is a unique opportunity for me at this time to navigate even more carefully the turbulent waters of ethics as applied to the biotechnological advances of our time. This requires an educational process based on reason, science and a solid faith, and the doctoral program in Bioethics at the Ateneo Pontificio Regina Apostolorum was designed to meet this need.

This scholarship is a tangible and generous way of supporting and building this educational process, which is not only mine, but that of all the great exponents of the Culture of Life, before me, here in Brazil and, it is a merit to the Church of Our Lord, to gain even more academic potential and be even more available to serve her on a variety of bioethical topics.

I confess that it will still be a challenge for me to gather the resources to pay for the third academic year (to write and defend the academic thesis), but I remain confident. To ensure the continuity of work in an orderly manner, I maintain my material and formal commitment, as at the beginning of the course, to fulfill the necessary requirements with all my commitment and interest.

I offer my warmest greetings to the entire team of our beloved Ateneo Regina Apostolorum, for their readiness to welcome me so well and for their commitment to the smooth execution of this doctoral program in Bioethics.
