Farmers use drones to dump pesticides in forests and streams in the interior of Acre

A complaint sent to the Varadouro newspaper revealed that farmers in an area on the Granada branch, in Acrelândia, in the interior of Acre, were using drones to dump pesticides on forests and a stream.

The farmers are in a legal dispute over the land, which has been going on since last year. Some of the families that demand recognition of ownership by Incra are descendants of rubber tappers expelled from the region between the 1970s and 1980s.

According to the Varadouro report, the practice is already known among landowners. “By pouring the poison over the forest, it is possible to expand the pasture without the need for “classic deforestation”, with the use of chainsaws. With the loss of vegetation due to poison, the owner can justify expanding the pasture due to the “natural death” of the trees”.

In January, just over 60 families from the Granadinha community resumed their occupation, after being expelled by the court. The farmers obtained a writ of repossession issued by the district of Acrelândia. Families descended from rubber tappers say that the lands belong to the Union and demand to be settled by Incra.

The complaint sent aerial images of the location. In them, it is possible to see trees without their foliage or with it completely dry, lifeless.

Acrelândia is in the heart of the triple Amacro border: Amazonas, Acre and Rondônia, a region known for being the epicenter of deforestation in the Amazon.
