According to relatives, the woman died last Tuesday (23), while seeking treatment at the UPA Centro-Sul. She complained of not feeling her legs and arrived at the scene in a wheelchair, screaming in pain..

Even so, his condition was assessed as “non-priority” and he received a “green bracelet” upon passing through screening. After five hours waiting for assistance, the young woman had a cardiorespiratory arrest and he didn’t resist.

Mariane’s boyfriend, João Cláudio Coelho, said that the young woman was lying on the floor, in agony and asking for help, but was only helped because a patient angry with the situation intervened and called the doctor. She was given pain medication and then had a seizure.

“The first information is that she was having an anxiety attack. She took medication into her veins and it didn’t help, she was still in pain. But no doctor came to give an opinion on what needed to be done,” said João.

Friends and family demanded explanations from the UPA team and filed a police report denouncing the case. On the social networks, other patients confirmed the delay in care (see below).

According to the Military Police record, the doctor responsible for the duty stated that the patient was classified with the green seal because “probably there was no change in vital data”.

Still as described in the police document, the victim was under observation for a while and, when she was found to have no pulse, she was taken to the emergency room, where professionals began resuscitation maneuvers.

“The maneuver was carried out for around an hour and six minutes, without success, and death was confirmed at 6:01 pm on April 23, 2024. An ultrasound device was later used, which detected a large amount of liquid in the thoracic region, suspecting in pulmonary embolism“, stated the doctor.

g1 contacted the Civil Police to find out if the case would be investigated, but did not receive a response until the last update of this report.

To g1, Belo Horizonte City Hall regretted what happened and said that the patient received the necessary assistance while she was in the unit. See note below:

“The user arrived at the scene at 1:30 pm complaining of pain in her chest and legs. She underwent risk classification at 1:32 pm and, at around 2:50 pm, she was treated.

After being medicated, and while waiting for the team to re-evaluate, the young woman had a cardiorespiratory arrest and was immediately taken to the emergency room. Despite all efforts and resuscitation maneuvers, carried out by UPA professionals for more than an hour, she did not resist resuscitation attempts. Her body was sent to the Legal Medical Institute (IML).

The Municipal Health Department is available for any necessary clarifications.”
