Sesc Minas will be offering more than 500 free eye care services in Caxambu (MG). The services began on April 18th and continue until May 22nd. The Mobile Unit is installed at the Jorge Curi Gymnasium, located on Avenida Rio Branco, in the city of Caxambu.

Services are provided from Monday to Friday, from 7:30 am to 3 pm. Medsesc is an itinerant project of Sesc Minas that has already visited seven cities in the south of Minas: Nepomuceno, Monsenhor Paulo, Monte Sião, Carrancas, Itumirim, Coqueiral and Varginha.

The project is an initiative of Sesc Minas in conjunction with the Municipality of Caxambu and the Brazilian Federation of Accommodation and Food (FBHA). The objective is to offer consultations and ophthalmological exams in the city and reduce the waiting list for these services.

Consultations will be offered free of charge, with priority given to those who have been on the waiting list for care at SUS for the longest time.

  • Ophthalmological consultations.
  • Computerized tonometry exams and procedures (for glaucoma diagnosis).
  • Computerized auto refraction exam (to measure the degree)
  • Refraction exam (to confirm degree)
  • Fundus examination (retinal assessment)
  • Biomicroscopy (to identify cataracts and other inflammatory processes)

According to the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), in the last Census, more than 35 million Brazilians have some visual difficulty and, in some cases, it could have been avoided or treated.
