A 72-year-old man tried to cross a closed bridge with a truck and suffered a seven-meter fall on Tuesday night (23), in Siderópolis, in the south of Santa Catarina.

According to the Military Fire Department (CBMSC), the truck driver did not know about the closure. While crossing, the victim heard the bridge break and, when trying to get out of the vehicle, ended up falling into the river in an area 60 centimeters deep.

The garrison had to carry out the rescue in a difficult-to-access location on a steep ravine. The elderly man was immobilized and removed from the area while still conscious with the help of a rappel line.
He was suspected of having fractured ribs and hypothermia. During the treatment, the victim also had a cardiorespiratory arrest and was resuscitated. The Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu) sent the elderly man to Siderópolis Hospital.
