Riedel changes plans to provide support after public safety deaths in MS – Cities

The governor of Mato Grosso Sul, Eduardo Riedel (PSDB), made a point of participating in the 2024 Tiradentes Medal Award ceremony, this Tuesday afternoon (23), at the General Command of the PMMS (Military Police of Mato Grosso do Sul) , as a gesture of support for the category after two deaths in public safety in the State last weekend.

Riedel stopped participating in an agenda with governors from the Central-West in Brasília, to honor civilians and military personnel who contributed to public security in Mato Grosso do Sul over the last year. “The biggest motivation for me to be here is to make a gesture of support during difficult times. When we lose a member of the institution we lose a piece of it”, she said during her speech. The governor also thanked the corporation for the work provided to society.

The general commander of the PM, Colonel Renato dos Anjos Garnes, began his speech by saying that every day a military police officer “leaves his life” for the benefit of society. “We are carrying out overt policing every day, moving towards confrontation, and that is why we exist, to truly bring security to every citizen,” he said.

In an invitation to reflect, he said that we all need each other and called the troops to take a closer look. “Each partner just needs to look around and take care of their partner, whether he woke up well, whether he is well”, he advised.

The colonel also reinforced the responsibility of commanders to “accompany their troops” and value “the human being behind their uniform”. He also highlighted the role of the State Government in providing equipment, vehicles, uniforms and valuing the category.

Security deaths – the captain of the Military Police Shock Battalion, Leonardo Luis Mense Rodrigues, aged 35, was found dead last Saturday (20). He was hit by a gunshot. The body was also at his residence, in the Mata do Jacinto neighborhood, in the Capital. On Sunday (21), metropolitan civil guard Josué Antônio Teodoro, 52 years old, was found dead in the house where he lived in Parque dos Laranjais, in Campo Grande. According to the registered incident report, the security officer’s wife found him already dead in the backyard of the residence at around 7am, after waking up.

Tiradentes Medal – The medal is named after the patron saint of Brazil’s military and civil police and martyr of the Minas Gerais inconfidence, Joaquim José da Silva Xavier, Tiradentes and was awarded to 216 civilians and military personnel, who provide relevant services to the PMMS.

Among those honored were the president of the Court of Justice of MS, judge Sérgio Fernandes Martins, and magistrate Mário José Esbaqueiro Júnior, the state secretary of government, Rodrigo Perez, state secretary of administration, Frederico Felini, state secretary of education, Hélio Daher , deputy secretary of the Civil House, João César Mattogrosso, deputy secretary of health, Crhistinne Maymone and the director-president of Agesul, Mauro Azambuja.
