The Legislative Assembly of Sergipe (Alese), on the initiative of state deputy Ibrain Monteiro (PV), in 2021, approved State Law No. 8,855 which establishes the ‘State Week to Combat Eclampsia’. The date occurs annually, in the last week of April, and aims to raise awareness of this condition during pregnancy.

The law aims, mainly, to reduce complications and maternal and child mortality associated with eclampsia, through access to careful prenatal care, ensuring that pregnant women receive the care and attention necessary to ensure a healthy and safe pregnancy for both them, as well as their babies.

As suggested by the Law, during State Week, related bodies will be able to provide information about the disease, promote early prevention and train health professionals to identify and treat this condition effectively, promoting the dissemination of preventive actions for complications and related therapies. to eclampsia, in addition to contributing to the development of proposals that enable access to careful and systematic prenatal monitoring during pregnancy. It is worth mentioning that May 22nd marks World Pre-eclampsia Awareness Day.

In Sergipe, an epidemiological study published by the Brazilian Journal of Development shows that, between 2010 and 2020, the incidence was 56 deaths, with a prevalence among women of average education and mixed race, with the majority in the postpartum period and up to 45 days after birth. childbirth.
