This Tuesday (23), the Powershoring Forum: Energy Transition and Neoindustrialization of Pernambuco will take place at the Porto Digital cinema, in the Recife neighborhood. The event discusses attracting investments in low-carbon productive and business activities in the State. The opening was attended by Governor Raquel Lyra, as well as the Secretary of Economic Development of Pernambuco, Guilherme Cavalcanti, and the Secretary of Environment, Sustainability and Fernando de Noronha, Ana Luiza.

At the opening table, governor Raquel Lyra highlighted Brazil’s potential for attracting investments from the green industry and highlighted actions that have made Pernambuco have an even greater capacity, such as the transposition of the São Francisco River and the promise of the Transnordestina railway. “We are talking about the next years of our State, in which we have a window of opportunities. The world sees Brazil as a territory where there is legal security, where there are no global conflicts, and what we want is to be as big as the world sees us. If you look at the Brazilian Northeast, which is where renewable energy is produced, (you will see that) Pernambuco has a very large competitive and logistical advantage”, stated Raquel.

The event is an initiative of the Pernambuco Economic Development Secretariat, in partnership with the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF), the International Finance Corporation (IFC) of the World Bank and the Climate and Society Institute.

IFC operations officer, Diogo Pardal, emphasized that the Northeast has facilities to develop green industries as it already has a renewable energy matrix. He also spoke about companies that could set up shop in Pernambuco with the consolidation of these investments. “An entire industry can move here to the State because of this attraction, such as cement, steel, flat glass, green buildings, the entire real estate sector can benefit, and this mobilizes the entire industry and also the creation of urban jobs “, he said.

The Port of Suape, located in Ipojuca, is expected to receive an industrial green hydrogen plant from a Danish company which, together with it, also plans to develop two blue hydrogen production units, which consists of the transformation of natural gas with carbon capture by reactors modular.

The Secretary of Economic Development, Guilherme Cavalcanti, spoke about the work being done by the Government to attract investments to the Port of Suape, in Ipojuca. “Some production chains that are positioned far into the future, as is the case with green hydrogen, already have links that are already economically viable. The Pernambuco Government’s strategy is to go after these links that materialize today, such as the production of ammonia, green steel, which we are seeking for the Port of Suape”, declared the secretary.
