In the first week of April, the city of Cabo de Santo Agostinho (PE), a municipality in the metropolitan region of Recife, hosted a meeting that formalized the birth of the Cabo de Santo Agostinho Innovation Center, a City Hall project that has the support of New Business World. The event was led by Inaldo Campelo, municipal secretary of Economic Development and Tourism.

The meeting brought together the main names in the regional productive sector and marked the beginning of an unprecedented collaborative partnership in Reserva do Paiva, the first planned neighborhood in the Metropolitan Region of Recife. The project covers a total area of 530 hectares, surrounded by forest, river and sea with coral reefs.

Representatives from several companies and institutions were present, such as: Petrobras, Abreu e Lima, Movecta, Porto de Suape and TransPetro, as well as the Paiva Association, representatives from IFPE (Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology Pernambuco), Grupo Cornélio Brennand , Banco do Nordeste, and Innova, administrator of Novo Mundo Empresarial.

GETEC, management of the city hall, together with the executive secretary of Science and Technology of the State of Pernambuco, reinforced government support for the initiative.

“The nucleus was structured around four fundamental pillars, with companies, organizations, institutions, colleges, technical schools, City Hall and State Government”, details Secretary Inaldo Campelo da Paz. “The initiative aims to foster a robust innovation ecosystem, that promotes sustainable economic growth through technology and innovation”, he states.

“We are faced with a unique opportunity to transform Reserva do Paiva into a hub of innovation, where collaboration between companies, organizations, educational institutions and the government will bring sustainable development and lasting benefits to the community,” he adds.

For the secretary, Sebrae (Brazilian Support Service for Micro and Small Businesses) plays a crucial role in the initiative, organizing all the work to build the nucleus, with six more meetings scheduled until July – when the project will be completed.

“This collective action plan will position Reserva do Paiva and Cabo de Santo Agostinho as references in innovation and entrepreneurship on the regional and national scene”, he states.

Recife has the highest GDP (Gross Domestic Product) per capita in the Northeast, according to data from the IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics) report, released by the Secretariat of Economic Development, Science, Technology and Innovation. In 2021, the GDP per capita of the capital of Pernambuco was R$33,094.37. In 2020, the city recorded R$29,935.42. In 2019, before the Covid-19 pandemic, the metropolis reached R$32,494.86.

“The City of Cabo de Santo Agostinho is a government entity dedicated to the economic, social and tourist development of the region, promoting the quality of life of citizens and sustainable growth through innovative initiatives”, concludes da Paz.
