Military police officers who attacked a wheelchair user while approaching a young woman in Piracicaba are dismissed

The images released on social media by residents show police officers from Ronda Ostensiva com Apoio de Motorcycles (Rocam) hitting the 21-year-old young man with a baton and using the taser on him. Another video shows a police officer kicking the young man’s father, a wheelchair user, and pushing a cabinet at him (watch above).

The Military Police had already opened a Military Police Inquiry (IPM) to investigate the conduct of the agents. This Wednesday (3), the SSP confirmed that they were removed. The investigation remains ongoing.

“The Public Security Secretariat emphasizes that the conduct of the police officers involved in the Piracicaba action does not comply with the PM’s operational protocols, which is why they were removed from operational activities.”

According to the police report, the 21-year-old was with friends in front of the house where he lives, when he saw an acquaintance being approached by police officers. He would have approached to see what happened, when the confusion began.

According to the boy’s report, the police asked him to leave the place, but he questioned the order, as it was a public place. He informed the Civil Police that he preferred not to speak out anymore for fear of reprisals.

In front of his house, there was an argument. The video recorded by residents shows the man being hit with a baton. He then enters the house and the police follow him.

Inside the property, the man’s father, who is in a wheelchair, shouts for the police to stop the attacks and questions the reason for the approach. The confusion escalates until the wheelchair user pushes one of the police officers, who reacts with a kick and pushes a cabinet on top of him..

After the incident, the military police took the young man to an Emergency Care Unit (UPA) and then to the police station, where the case was registered as contempt and resistance.

The Military Police reported, in a statement on Tuesday (2), that the man was aggressive and swore at the police while they approached a suspicious motorcycle in the neighborhood. The agents tried to restrain him, but the man allegedly resisted and tried to escape.

According to the corporation, during the handcuffing attempt, family members interfered in the action, harassed the team and tried to prevent the arrest. “It was necessary to use physical force to ensure the safety of the team and arrest the individual.”

O g1 questioned the PM about the violence during the approach and the corporation informed that upon having access to the images it initiated a Police Inquiry Ordinance, with the purpose of investigating the circumstances of the events.
